Field Work

So Friday I had a very productive meeting with my mentor, we got to talk more about my project and we found out (thru a mentor meeting question) that I was supposed to be doing field work :/ major oops !
I felt super bad I hadn’t been doing any field work, because it´s actually what is going to give a closer approach to my project… architecture… so, my mentor Mrs. Fernandez gave me the phone of one of her friends that happens to be an architect and we made an appointment for a meeting… I interviewed her. We spent 2 hours in Starbucks talking about all the branches in architecture and her experience and all the different things an architect does… and now I know how the life of an architect is, because one told me about it . THAT was cool . I am definitely going to try and find more architects to interview and maybe go see them in action :P
Who knows…

I really liked how the life of an architect sounds like. It definitely does not sound chill, it keeps you constantly active and with a creative mind. The lady I interviewed, Carmen, was an architect in Venezuela and now works with Gamma USA, Windows and Walls develops, who manufactures and installs architectural aluminum products for both the commercial and institutional sectors — fixed and operable windows, curtain walls, doors, panels, coverings and cladding always striving to adapt to new trends and ever-changing market needs.
One of the projects they have as of today are: sky scrapers in New York City and the remodeling of the Miami Airport.

(The image is not of the real project, its just to give you an idea)
During the interview I brought up environmental architecture, to see what an architect thinks about it and she says that right now every architectural company is trying to focus on making their buildings/houses etc. environmental friendly because by making them with those characteristics the building is more efficient for the buyer because this way they won´t have to lose money in big ac bills etc. But she did say that it is still not very popular in the market because it is not the usual building strategy… and it is more expensive to buy ( although in the long term it is less expensive to maintain) . She gave me an example: “ok, so when you go to Publix and you want to buy either a coke or a bottled water … which one will be more expensive?  in your mind it might be the coke because it has more ingredients to it , sugar, water, artificial bla bla bla… and water … is JUST water. But water is more expensive than the coke because the product is offering something that is good for you even though it is less processed and doesn’t contain so many ingredients.
Yeah… Im liking architecture and my urge to find out what I need to make architecture environmental friendly is growing every day :P
Good night people !

Bad NEWS for our Wallets...

But it was a good picture :P … well I got my license and now the gas price went up $100/barrel from being like$90/barrel… this Gadhafi

Oil tops $100 a barrel

The European standard, gained $3.50, or 3%, to $114.75 a barrel.
Oil prices rose above $100 a barrel Wednesday for the first time since October 2008, before retreating to end its active trading session at $98.10 a barrel.
"Traders were concerned about events in Libya, which seem to have gone from bad to worse," said analysts at Cameron Hanover, a firm that specializes in energy price risk management, in a report. "Foreign oil companies operating in Libya evacuated workers, and some were reportedly suspending operations."

Talking about Schools

Time , Time , Time...
Time is going by so fast, so I need take advantage of every second. I have probably not been very focused... last week my mentor was really busy because she runs P.R.I.D.E and she had meetings that week and Wednesday she takes her kids to magnet school so her kids give out tutoring to the younger students.Very nice right?
Well now Daniel has been helping me by giving me motivation to go to FIU and check out the architecture campus and start applying to scholarships… I’m really glad he is doing that, and I thank him a lot J I am going to make an appointment with them so I can go have all my questions answered and well… just check the school out, see if I see myself going there and what I need to do to get there.
I kind of don’t like short weeks cause I ran out of productive time … so yeah… lets get done what needs to be done
More Noodle tools !

White Mountain Office

This office somehow reminds me of the nuclear bunker in the end of Terminator 3. This old atomic shelter is now used by Swedish ISP. This really is a one of a kind work environment.

TBWA Hakuhodo

TBWA Hakuhodo is a Japanese advertising company. This awesome office was designed by Klein Dytham Architecture. This office wants to bring the outside in. You’ll see plenty of nature inspired elements such as grass and trees.

Pallotta Teamworks

Pallotta Teamworks asked Clive Wilkinson Architects to create a one of a kind office. And they got what they asked for. This entire office is made out of shipping containers that are stacked on top of one another. The shipping containers were painted in various colours to add a bit of flair to the workspace.

Tree Houses

Wednesday.
Today I tie dyed shirts with the art club, we had tied like 200 shirts in the past 2 Mondays and finally tie dyed.
Later in the day I went back to that webpage I found yesterday (look for pictures of the hanging couches I found on the last post)
I found projects of houses on trees or in the middle of the forest. Houses with trees growing insides  walls.
Im making a power point presentation about what I’m finding for my tree house...

In some ways, this building designed by Bellemo & Cat stands out strongly from its surroundings – critics must decided whether this move preserves or shatters the integrity of the green hillside landscape. From a sustainability standpoint, however, raising the whole house on stilts is an eco-friendly move that preserves the existing trees and other plant life growing natural on the site.
amazing forest tree home
Thatc is an aircraft+boat+ float. LOOK at the designs and the handling the lights to make the building energy friendly effiecient.

Tree Couches ? WHAT!?

I have no words for what I found today!
I don´t remember if I mentioned my reasons for being interested in environmental architecture, but here they go:
1)      It is both beneficial for humanity and the environment.
2)      It is not only energy efficient but it counts with cool interior design and it can be done very creatively.
3)      One of my life dreams is to build a house on a tree and  live there; it will have internet and telephone connections J

Ok , so today I found  ideas for couches!( for my tree house of course)
I found that not only there is architecture friendly approaches but there is furnishing
Eco friendly projects … and … I have pictures of some!
check this out:

 I want one!!
Well I got to go, I have BC class at Pembroke then coffee with Daniel <3

Friday!

Today I looked for more info about environmental architecture and found out that Hunter Douglas has ways of making your home environmental friendly… Not only using recyclable materials but also making your home a more energy efficient facility, by applying shutters or sun holes in your home so you can utilize the suns light instead of using electrical light. It’s the weekend I’m going ice skating with some friends ! and I have the fashion show at school on Saturday … me and 2 friends designed and made 3 outfits, I’m excited !  aaaahh!!! I LOVE RENEE! ( she designed with me )
Good news! Yesterday I gave my neighbor the official first Ukulele class!!
It looks it is going to go well J I’m teaching her Over the Rainbow and some other chords .
Have a good weekend guys!

Maybe Ukulele?

Ok, so I had problems with my blog again... I kind of forgot my password again... but it will not happen again (promise).
So this week I was remembering those good old times when I played the piano, it wasn’t that long ago but I’m very sad I put it aside. You know those activities that really make you happy when you’re doing them? Playing the piano was one of mine…
This Tuesday I was talking with a good friend, who happens to be my neighbor, about how we start playing the piano and then it oh so happened that we like the ukulele… I was really excited and I considered it as another option for my wise project. I already know how to play a song, because my excitement I practiced and practiced.
I’m still researching about  architecture.
